The journal "Materials Science and Welding Technologies" is an interdisciplinary platform for presenting research results in the field of welding engineering, widely defined materials engineering, including ferrous and steel metallurgy as well as electrical drives and machines.

On 1 January 2023, three institutes, i.e. Łukasiewicz – Institute for Ferrous Metallurgy, Łukasiewicz – Institute of Welding and Łukasiewicz – Institute of Electric Drives and Machines KOMEL, merged to form Łukasiewicz – Upper-Silesian Institute of Technology. This fact entailed the transformation of the “Bulletin of the Institute of Welding” into the “Materials Science and Welding Technologies” journal, embracing the characteristics of the newly established entity and covering a much wider spectrum of research activities. Journal publications include articles on welding engineering, materials engineering, metallurgy, civil engineering, transport, power engineering, automation, electronics and electrical engineering.
